TRIP SUMMARY:
Parrot Clay Lick Peru 5 Day Rainforest Adventure
Day 1: Puerto Maldonado → Tambopata Lodge Inn
Morning: Pickup from Puerto Maldonado (airport or bus terminal) and private 2‑hour transfer to the Tambopata River port.
Boat Ride: Navigate the Tambopata River, spotting birds, turtles, capybaras, caimans, and, with luck, a jaguar lounging on the riverbank.
Afternoon: Arrive at Tambopata Lodge Inn, enjoy an Amazonian welcome drink and lunch, then walk through primary rainforest, home to towering ancient trees and diverse wildlife.
Evening: After dinner, embark on a night boat tour to see nocturnal species—caimans, night monkeys, and possibly jungle felines—before resting at the lodge.
Day 2: Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick & Jungle Walks
5 AM: Cruise upriver to the Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick. Watch as hundreds of red, green, and blue macaws gather to consume mineral-rich clay—a breathtaking natural spectacle—while enjoying breakfast.
Midday: Return to the lodge with a stop at the Tambopata control point, followed by a visit to the local biodiversity museum.
Afternoon: Explore jungle trails with your guide, learning about medicinal plants and spotting monkeys, birds, and mammals.
Night: Join a guided night walk to hear the rainforest’s nocturnal chorus—frogs, tarantulas, insects, and night monkeys—before returning to your private room.
Day 3: Fishing, Kayaking & Evening Campfire
Morning: After breakfast, boat downstream for fishing—try catching pacu, sábalo, catfish, or piranha.
Afternoon: Kayak along the river or a secluded stream. Cool off with a swim in clear waters and visit a nearby local farm.
Late Afternoon: Trek to the Mammal Clay Lick—spot howler monkeys, deer, peccaries, and other wildlife drawn to mineral-rich clay.
Evening: Enjoy dinner by a campfire with jungle stories and legends shared by your guide.
Day 4: Transfer to Sandoval Lake Lodge
Early Morning: Depart by boat and vehicle to the Alto Madre de Dios River, observing wildlife along the way such as turtles, fishing birds, and capybaras.
Walk & Boat Ride: Arrive at Sandoval Lake checkpoint. Hike – 3 km through pristine jungle, then board a canoe to Sandoval Lake Lodge for lunch.
Afternoon: Explore the lake by canoe, spotting giant otters, black caimans, turtles, and a variety of birdlife.
Night: A second canoe trip with flashlight—spot caimans, nocturnal birds, and monkeys before returning to your lodge.
Day 5: Sandoval Lake & Return to Puerto Maldonado
Morning: Canoe to the ‘Macaw Palm Clay Lick’, where macaws feed on palm fruits rich in vitamins and minerals. Then trek through primary forest to observe Brazil nut trees, healing plants (ayahuasca, cacay, copaiba), monkeys (capuchin, squirrel, howler, woolly monkey), sloths, tarantulas, and other wildlife.
Midday: Return to the lodge for lunch.
Afternoon: Paddle across Sandoval Lake, hike back to the checkpoint, and travel by boat to Puerto Maldonado. Collect your luggage at our office before drop-off at the airport or bus terminal.
