Tour Itinerary Tour Rainforest Expeditions – 2 Days
Day 1: Amazonia Tour Rainforest Expeditions to Sandoval Lake Rerved
You’ll be picked up from the airport or bus terminal and transferred to our office. After registering and storing any unnecessary luggage, you’ll take only what is needed for the tour.
Then, we will transfer you to the port to board the outboard boat, which will take us along the Alto Madre de Dios River.
During the journey, you might spot several species on the riverbanks, such as turtles sunbathing on fallen trunks, migratory fishing birds, and, if you’re lucky, the world’s largest rodent, the capybara.
Upon reaching the Sandoval Lake checkpoint, we will register and begin a 3-kilometer walk into the heart of the deep jungle.
Afterward, we’ll arrive at a small port where we will board a canoe and paddle through a snake-shaped channel.
From there, we will cross the lake in about 50 minutes to the Sandoval Lake Lodge, where you’ll check in, get settled
in your room, and enjoy lunch. In the afternoon, we will explore Lake Sandoval in our canoe to observe the local
wildlife, including the giant otter family (also known as the “river wolf”), black alligators, prehistoric birds called
shanshos, turtles, and many bird species.
Afterward, we’ll return to the lodge for dinner. Later in the evening, we will embark on a night excursion by canoe,
carrying flashlights to spot black alligators, night birds, and monkeys on the riverbanks.
After this activity, we’ll return to the Sandoval Lake lodge to rest in your respective rooms.
Day 2: Sandoval Lake to Puerto Maldonado
We’ll begin the day by waking up to the sounds of birdsong and enjoying a delicious breakfast. Afterward, we will
take our rowing canoe and visit a swampy area called Guacamayo Palmera (Collpa de Palmeras). This area attracts
various species of macaws and parrots that feed on the fruits of the palms, rich in vitamins, sodium, calcium, potassium, and other essential minerals.
Next, we’ll explore the primary Amazon rainforest to observe towering walnut trees (known for their chestnuts) and other important plants used by local people for medicinal purposes. Among these plants are ayahuasca, chacruna,
cañacaña, ajo sacha, huayo sugar, chuchuhuasi, and copaiba.
Along the way, we will observe species of monkeys, including the brown capuchin, squirrel monkey, howler monkey, friar monkey, and little lion monkey.
We may also spot tarantulas, insects, frogs, toads, and mammals such as armadillos, sloths, and more.
After this exploration, we will return to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, we will board a rowing canoe to navigate across Lake Sandoval.
We will then hike back to the
checkpoint before boarding the outboard boat for the return journey along the Madre de Dios River to Puerto Maldonado.
Finally, we will collect our luggage at our office and take you to the airport or bus terminal.
