Luxury Peruvian Amazon Tour 4 days
Day 1: Journey to Sandoval Lake Lodge – Welcome to the Wildlife.
After your arrival in Puerto Maldonado, your adventure begins with a warm welcome and a smooth transfer to the office, where you’ll store unnecessary luggage and take only what’s essential for the jungle. Soon, you’ll board a motorized canoe, cruising the Alto Madre de Dios River — your first taste of Amazonian life.
Keep your camera ready. Along the riverbanks, it’s common to spot turtles sunbathing, herons and kingfishers in flight, and if you’re lucky, the capybara — the world’s largest rodent — making its appearance.
Upon reaching the Tambopata National Reserve checkpoint, the real adventure begins. A 3 km guided jungle trek leads you deep into the heart of the rainforest, where towering ceiba trees and the calls of howler monkeys surround you. Arrive at a narrow canal, where you’ll board a paddle canoe, gliding through a serpentine waterway that opens onto the spectacular Lake Sandoval.
- Check-in at the luxury Sandoval Lake Lodge
- Gourmet jungle lunch upon arrival
- Afternoon canoe tour on Lake Sandoval to spot giant river otters, black caimans, prehistoric hoatzins, and countless bird species
- Candlelit dinner at the lodge
Night safari by canoe, with flashlights revealing nocturnal creatures, alligators, and mysterious forest sounds
Day 2: Wildlife Encounters and Indigenous Culture – From Lake to Lodge
Wake early for a serene canoe ride on Lake Sandoval, when the rainforest awakens. Witness giant otters hunting, monkeys foraging in the canopy, and rare birdlife bathed in the golden light of dawn.
After breakfast and one last look across the misty lake, retrace your steps back through the jungle and set off by boat toward the Enai Lodge, your next boutique base nestled deeper in the wild.
Afternoon Activities:
Visit the Monkey Island, a sanctuary where capuchins, tamarins, and white-faced monkeys roam freely. A joy for wildlife lovers and photographers.
Cultural immersion with a local indigenous family – experience traditional hunting tools, ancestral stories, native art, and even face painting with natural pigments. You’ll also have the chance to purchase handcrafted souvenirs directly from the artisans.
Evening: Return to the lodge for a peaceful evening surrounded by forest sounds and enjoy a traditional jungle dinner.
Day 3: Canopy Adventure, Ziplining & Jungle Fishing – Thrill in the Trees
Fuel up with breakfast before heading out for an unforgettable day of adventure in the canopy and river exploration.
Morning Thrills:
Canopy Walkway: Trek 200 meters to the base of a 35-meter canopy tower, built into the trunk of a towering Lupuna tree. From above, marvel at sweeping rainforest views and spot toucans, parrots, and monkeys in the treetops.
Zip Line Adventure: Gear up for a heart-pounding glide across a 190-meter zip line, followed by a narrow sky bridge and another thrilling return ride — an adrenaline rush with panoramic jungle views.
Afternoon Relaxation:
Head to a quiet creek for rustic sport fishing — try your hand at catching piranhas, catfish, and sardines with traditional Amazonian techniques.
Night Safari:
Trail hike after dark to spot frogs, spiders, nocturnal birds, and perhaps even a night monkey or tapir.
Caiman spotting by boat: Navigate the dark river using reflectors to find white and dwarf caimans, whose glowing red eyes pierce through the night.
Day 4: Parrot Clay Lick & Return to Civilization
Rise before dawn for one of the Amazon’s most colorful spectacles — the Cachuela Parrot Clay Lick.
Morning Excursion:
At 4:30 AM, board your canoe to reach a strategic lookout near the colpa, or clay lick.
Watch in awe as blue-headed parrots, auroras, parakeets, and possibly scarlet macaws gather in vibrant flocks to feed on the mineral-rich clay — a natural detox unique to these birds.
Afterward, return to the lodge for a final jungle breakfast, then transfer back to Puerto Maldonado, with drop-off at the airport or bus terminal depending on your schedule.
